Project Experience Examples (All designed to meet/exceed current accessibility requirements) Multi-family residential project accessibility site analysis for a variety of large scale projects in the Mid-Atlantic region. Waterfront Harper House in Pensacola, Florida, designed as a low-maintenance retirement residence to permit ease of use by aging/disabled people. Bowie Performing Arts Center (BCPA); created and headed (for ten years) a non-profit organization, BRAVA (Bowie Region Arts Vision Association) to raise money (over $13 million); marshal public, private, and government support; and hire architecture and construction management firms necessary to construct a state-of-the-art 800 seat theater with balcony, orchestra pit and full fly tower adjacent but independent from city’s high school. Created consensus for selecting and securing the site, produced the preliminary program and design sketches, and ensured accessibility ADA/UFAS issues were addressed from conception through construction. Experienced a construction project from “owner’s” viewpoint as entity completely in charge of center’s creation. Healing Garden for the grounds of Holy Trinity Church/School; with another parishioner researched, designed, prepared reports/presentations, and began preliminary construction of a public, contemplative, accessible garden on the 14 acre campus to include elements such as: a “spiritual fitness” trail, a healing-prayer request “drop box”, a walkable labyrinth in a triangular paving-pattern (also would serve as a gathering area for outdoor services/weddings), and various plantings/landscape elements to engage all the senses. Facility for Growth Church campus master planning committee; served on task force to analyze existing campus infrastructure and make recommendations for future projects. Specifically evaluated current accessibility issues in relation to future plans. ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) Headquarters, Wash, DC. part of programming team and performed preliminary site analysis and LEED sustainability certification planning for new building that was then designed by known architect, Moshe Safde. FAA Air Route Traffic Control Centers, Denver and Miami. Programmed, designed and created construction documents for the rehabilitation and expansion of the administration wings to serve as a prototype design to be used in 19 other FAA centers nationwide. Developed plans to maintain redundant, uninterrupted, power and HVAC for Air Traffic Control areas during construction. The design also included HAZMAT abatement, hurricane and blast resistant curtainwall detailing, communications wiring, enhancing accessibility, and phased roof construction plans to maintain water proof integrity. IRS Child Care Center & Credit Union. As project architect/designer, reduced cost from $1.4 to $1 million by utilizing residential construction adapted to metric, and GSA standards while coordinating with office head of design for potential award winning design. Designed to special accessibility and code requirements for playground, classrooms, preschool and infant ages. FAA Operational Control Centers, Atlanta and San Diego. Programming, design, and construction documents for the phased construction of 60 console operations control centers, prime mission equipment and communications racks, and support offices under an accelerated three month schedule to meet FAA funding requirements. The facility design included extensive raised access flooring, redundant power and HVAC services, communications cabling, specialty lighting, and command and control console layout and selection. U.S. Consulate Communications Upgrades - Marseilles, France and sites in South America and Eastern Europe for Dept. of State. Project Architect, interdisciplinary coordination of survey report, BOM, and construction drawings for RF shielded facilities within tight schedule. Installed and used Timberline cost estimating software to develop cost estimates and bill of materials lists for several overseas embassy design/build renovation projects. Marine Corps Manpower Center, Quantico, VA. Coordination and production of architectural contract documents in a 35 to 100% Design-Build effort for a 5 floor, 150,000 sf office building. U. S. Embassy Program, Lima Peru. Served as project architect for the State Department's Tenant Fit-up for Embassy Buildings in Lima, Peru. Organized State Department Standard Criteria Documents for Perimeter Walls, Fences, Planters and Bollards. Defense Mapping Agency, converted light-industrial SCIF to office space. Managed multi-disciplined team of in-house architects/engineers. Responsible for code review, cost estimates, client meetings, field surveys, ADA-compliant restroom design, space planning, and detailing.
